Dr. Mary Jane Zander earned a degree in Graphic Design at the University of Illinois. She worked as an art director in several advertising firms. A single mother, she went back to school a second time and earned a Master’s and Doctorate degree from the University of Illinois. While there, she interned at the Krannert Museum of Fine Art and supervised student teachers for the University of Illinois.
She was a Professor of Art Education at the Universities of Texas, Mississippi, and Virginia Commonwealth University and wrote curriculum for the states of Texas, Mississippi and Virginia as well as “Teaching Strategies in Art” for the Virginia Department of Education. She was responsible for initiating a Foundational School for the Fine Arts in Austin, Texas. She was on the Board of the Mississippi Commission of the Arts and a Facilitator for Whole Schools (a five million dollar program that taught teachers arts integration in 21 Mississippi Schools). She has given many National, International and Regional presentations and written numerous articles about art education and the arts.
