BOTANICA 2015: The Art and Science of Plants

This is an annual exhibition of Botanical art curated by Margaret Saul, (director of the Brookside School of Botanical Art).  The exhibition focuses on work of graduating students from the school and by members of the Botanical Art Society of the National Capitol Region (BASNCR).

Exploration of various media is encouraged –as is a “Mosaic wall” with art works artist’s interpretations of Pansies.

Works accepted, include: Pansy group, Small Pansies, Pragmepedium delanti, and Camellias from my latest series.

“The Cosmos Club is a private social club incorporated in Washington, D.C. in 1878 by men distinguished in science, literature and the arts…Among its members …have been three Presidents, two Vice Presidents, a dozen Supreme Court justices, 36 Nobel Prize winners, 61 Pulitzer Prize winners and 55 winners of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.” You can learn more about the Cosmos Club by visiting their website.

This exhibition features art work in the publication, American Botanical Paintings Native Plants of the Mid-Atlantic, a project sponsored by BAEE (Botanical Artists for Art and Education). Zander’s  Pink Azalea, is included in both the book and the exhibition.

Strathmore is a non-profit multi-disciplinary arts center in North Bethesda, MD that hosts concerts, art exhibitions, afternoon teas, family festivals, summer camps, and education classes in dance, music, and visual arts. The Strathmore campus is comprised of the Mansion at Strathmore, an outdoor sculpture garden, an outdoor concert pavilion, and the Music Center at Strathmore. The Music Center at Strathmore is home to an acoustically superb 2,000-seat concert hall that welcomes world-class artists for music and dance performances all year long, and an education center, home to innovative rehearsal spaces, classrooms and private studios that have music and dance classes, master classes, mentoring sessions, workshops, private lessons, and summer camps where students of all ages have a myriad of educational opportunities.

The Art exhibition will hang in Strathmore’s Invitational Gallery.
